It Happened at the World's Fair is Elvis' twelfth soundtrack work and 24th LP for RCA. Featuring the songs heard in the film of the same name, it was recorded in two sessions at Radio Recorders in Hollywood, on August 30 and September 22, 1962.

Initially scheduled for August 28 and 29, 1962, the sessions were postponed until September because Presley became ill; As a result, only two songs were satisfactorily completed on the first night, August 30th.

Ten songs were covered for the soundtrack, the three most successful written by Elvis' favorite songwriters, Don Robertson (who actively participated in the sessions playing piano), and the duo Otis Blackwell and Winfield Scott, who had written the hit single "Return to Sender" the previous year.

"One Broken Heart for Sale" and "They Remind Me Too Much of You" would be released as the A and B sides, respectively, of a single on January 29, 1963 to promote the album and film. Despite reaching 11th position on the charts, "One Broken Heart" was not very well received by fans in its truncated version of just 1 minute and 35 seconds in length, which omitted an entire verse for some reason unknown to this day, and the B-side it parked at number 53 on the charts.

"One Broken Heart For Sale" would become Elvis' first single not to reach the Top 5, excluding "Shake Rattle and Roll", which did not chart after being released on August 31, 1956, simultaneously with Elvis' debut album split into six singles. Regardless, the single became a Gold record.

Originally, an expensive deluxe album was planned, but with only 20 minutes of music and the relative failure of "One Broken Heart For Sale", the idea was abandoned.
