Kid Galahad is Elvis' ninth soundtrack album, his 28th EP and 36th album for RCA. It encompasses the songs featured in the eponymous film, released on August 11, 1962, recorded in a single session between the night of the 26th and the early morning of October 27, 1961 at Radio Recorders in Hollywood.

At this point in his career, Elvis had a proven track record of sales and so as many as 300 song demos were submitted to score a single film, even taking into account the necessary publishing deals for the greater benefit of Elvis and the Coronel's companies, Elvis Presley Music and Gladys Music.

As the plots of his films became interchangeable, songs rejected for one story could be used for an entirely different one, as with "A Whistling Tune", which had been omitted from the previous film, "Follow That Dream".

Six songs were recorded for the film and the soundtrack was issued as an EP on August 28, 1962, to coincide with the film's premiere a few days earlier. The opening song of the album and film, "King of the Whole Wide World", made the Top 40 of the most played on the radio and reached 30th place on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, staying 1st in the UK for 17 weeks.

The work was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America on March 27, 1992 for selling 250,000 copies.

Although lacking much material, FTD worked extensively to recover all possible recordings of the track, crafting some of their finest work. The sound of the mono tapes can be disappointing at times and seem monotonous, due to a cleaning process done by the record company, but it is worth listening to all the outtakes of the songs and the harmony of the band that would work together for the last time.

The original audios, minus the echoes added by RCA, are simply magnificent. However, the label does not include all the takes of "King of the Whole Wide World", as Elvis recorded an incredible 35 versions until he was satisfied. At the close of the job, FTD includes the usual booklet with photos, album covers, memorabilia and behind-the-scenes information.
