Wild in the Country was Elvis' seventh film and the first released in 1961, on June 15 of that year. Its dramatic story marks the last time the singer would be seen in a serious production before "Charro!" in 1969.

Having noted that the soundtracks for "King Creole", "G.I. Blues" and "Flaming Star" had sold well above expectations, the Colonel decided that the best thing to do to make a profit was to fill his protégé's films with songs, which would become the standard model until the end of his film career.

However, Elvis was not at all pleased to learn this and imposed some rules so that he would not break the contract with 20th Century Fox, as he had done with "Flaming Star". The final agreement dictated that the maximum number of songs in the film should be five and that Elvis could still veto one or another.

With that, the recordings were completed in two small sessions on November 7 and 8, 1960 at Radio Recorders in Hollywood.

Two songs for the film, "Lonely Man" and "Forget Me Never", ended up not being used in production. The first was made available as the B-side of the single "Surrender", on February 7, 1961, having been very poorly received by the public and critics, and the second only appeared in 1965, on the LP "Elvis For Everyone!" as well as "In My Way", heard in the film.

"Wild in the Country" was released as the B-side of the "I Feel So Bad" single on May 2, 1961 and was not very successful either, reaching only #26 on the charts. "I Slipped, I Stumbled, I Fell" would be used at the closing of the "Something For Everybody" LP, released on July 17, 1961. "Husky Dusky Day", sung as a duet with Hope Lange in the film, remains with its date and recording location unknown to this day.

As Wild in the Country did not receive an EP or LP at the time, the overall rating of the complete soundtrack is unknown. The film's songs were brought together in a single work for the first time in 2008, with the release of the soundtrack and its sessions by the Follow That Dream label.

As usual, FTD dug up rare audio and visual material to create a CD that was a huge fan favorite. The songs, presented with remastered audio and together with all the take-by-take work to create the perfect version, show all the versatility of Elvis, who abandons, so to speak, rock and launches himself into romantic ballads with beautiful lyrics.
