Elvis Presley, Canada 1957 is a bootleg CD by the label Elvis One
specializing in rare King of Rock content. It contains Canadian singles from 1957 and excerpts from concerts played in the country in 1957, as well as interviews and radio programs.

With Elvis' success in the US and his fame spilling over to the UK, it was only natural that his agent would seek to take him to every possible corner of the world. Hearing the clamor of Canadian fans, Parker landed an unassuming contract for four shows in the country on April 2nd and 3rd, 1957. There, Elvis was immensely well received by fans and utterly hated by most of the press.

Far from the controversies, Elvis sang most of his hits in those two days. He gave the audience from "Heartbreak Hotel", "Don't Be Cruel", "Love Me", "Too Much", to "All Shook Up", the still unreleased "One Night" and "Butterfly", which he never formally recorded. Elvis closed the shows with "Hound Dog", repeating the chorus a dozen or more times in a soaring crescendo.

After his shows at Maple Leaf Gardens, Elvis and his entourage arrived in the capital Ottawa at 8 am on April 3, 1957, sunny and with a temperature of exactly 32ºF. Beneath his glittering pompadour, the singer's face was pale and worried.

Each of the two shows that day ran for 40 minutes and featured nine songs, including "Don't Be Cruel", "Hound Dog", "Heartbreak Hotel" and "Love Me Tender". Elvis sang, but no one could hear him over the deafening pandemonium. When he smiled that crooked smile, it was mass hysteria. Between one show and another, a press conference aimed to bring more of Elvis to fans and skeptics alike.

On August 31, 1957, Elvis, Scotty Moore, Bill Black, D.J. Fontana and The Jordanaires went to Vancouver by train to perform at Empire Stadium. Vancouver's first rock concert had taken place just a year earlier when Bill Haley & His Comets drew 6,000 people to Kerrisdale Arena. Now, Elvis had drawn more than four times the crowd: The paying 25,898 went wild with the King of Rock.

The stage was set up on the empty football field, but fans bypassed security and ran towards it. The show had to be interrupted twice. To trick the audience into leaving unnoticed after the performance, Elvis gave his gold coat to a crew member to wear when getting into a car. Fans followed the man in the gold jacket, and Elvis was allowed to leave the stadium unharmed.

While many dream of hearing these only five Elvis shows outside the US in their entirety, unfortunately this has been deemed impossible over the sixty-five plus years that have passed. What was found in those six decades was in such bad shape that very little could be saved.

In 2016, the Elvis One label released a CD with excerpts from the shows in good audio quality. Such tracks are songs and speeches, all under a minute in length. To complete the work's 25 tracks, the label included ten singles released in Canada in 1957, several interviews and some extras. Only six tracks are from the actual performances.
