King Creole is Elvis Presley's sixth album for RCA Victor, recorded in five days at Radio Recorders in Hollywood. It contains songs written and recorded expressly for the 1958 film of the same name, and reached number two on the Billboard Top Pop Albums.
Most of the songs originated from the group of writers hired by Hill & Range, the publishing company jointly owned by Presley and Colonel Tom Parker: Fred Wise, Ben Weisman, Claude Demetrius, Aaron Schroeder, Sid Tepper and Roy C. Bennett. Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, who had reached an impasse with the Colonel during production of the previous film, Jailhouse Rock (1957), in which they had virtually mastered the proceedings, were notorious in their relatively limited contribution.
Furious at mere songwriters having such easy access to Presley without going through Parker's "proper channels", the Colonel closed the avenue to his award-winning client, especially as the duo also tried to influence the direction of Presley's film by giving him an idea to film an adaptation of Nelson Algren's novel "A Walk On the Wide Side", with Elia Kazan directing, and Leiber and Stoller providing the music.
The Colonel put an end to such notions, though echoes of the concept lingered in the film and the pair still managed to put three songs on the soundtrack, including the title track and "Trouble", possibly the best songs in the production. Presley's rendition of "Trouble" alludes to Muddy Waters and Bo Diddley; he would return to the song with tremendous success in the 1968 television special.
The songs "Hard Headed Woman" and "Don't Ask Me Why" appeared as two sides of a single on July 10, 1958, to coincide with the film's release, and reached No. 25 in the genre's charts.
Capitalizing on the film, RCA also released two EPs, on July 15 and 29, with the soundtrack split between the two, omitting only "Steadfast, Loyal and True".
Released ten weeks after film production, on September 19, 1958, the album was certified Gold on July 15, 1999 by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
The label first published the original 11-track album on CD in 1988, followed by an expanded edition on April 15, 1997 to which seven more tracks were added, including the song "Danny" recorded in the same sessions as the track, but never used.
Between 2010 and 2016, FTD released three remastered versions of the album, complete with several alternate takes and extras.

If FTD seemed to neglect rare tracks in 2010, the label simply redeemed itself with this double CD. The real must have of this release is the second CD, which contains 13 demos and acetates with all the songs from the film sung by people other than Elvis, which served as a basis for him to feel the spirit of the song when recording his version. Closing the double CD, FTD made available a 16-page booklet with rare photos. The work includes the following tracks:
